In 2004, when in Slovakia they consolidated the value-added tax and the income tax of both juridical persons and natural persons, Western media were glorifying this as the European tax act of the year. Slovakia became a country where it’s worth doing business. The latest news from the World Bank, the International Financial Company and the consulting firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers regarding the status of global tax systems, Paying Taxes 2009, shows that a former central European maverick lost its momentum. On the list of simplest ways of paying taxes, which compares three indexes, Slovakia comes in as fourth among EU countries. Below Slovakia are Italy, Poland and Romania. On the complete list of 181 countries of the world, Slovakia is 126. Compared to the previous survey it has fallen four places.I Pg 54
