The opening of the Slovak branch of the Japanese insurance company Mitsui Sumitomo doesn‘t have to sound like an important event. Although it is one of the biggest insurance companies in the world, in the time of companies moving countries these things happen quite often. Interesting is the way how the branch is entering Slovakia: almost the entire team is standing behind it, which for sixteen years was building and leading the Slovak daughter of the German insurance company Gerling. Two years ago the Japanese acquired people in Germany following the same scenario. “It can be said that 95% of Mitsui German employees came from Gerling,” says Reiner Gleiss, head of the German branch. And likewise from the remains of Gerling, the French branch a short time ago also rose. Mitsui Sumitomo alone has had a branch in London for a long time: its forerunners arrived to London city even before the Great Depression, in 1927. So far the company hasn’t really made its mark on the continent, its network taking care mostly of the European daughters of Japanese clients. That’s why it has a subsidiary for example also in Prague. This office will continue taking care of Japanese businesses. The Slovak branch has the task of finding new, local clients, firstly in Slovakia and gradually also in surrounding countries, including Austria.I Pg 62
